CCTV FAQs

Why do I need a CCTV System?

A CCTV system, when properly installed, can provide enhanced security for your business or home. In commercial settings it can be used to mitigate against theft, break-in, and fraudulent insurance claims. In a residential or home setting, CCTV acts as a strong deterrent to burglaries. Coupled with a residential alarm system, it offers enhanced home security.

How long does it take to install a CCTV System?

After we survey your property, we can usually arrange an installation within 10 days (we can accommodate urgent requests – please contact us). The installation process typically takes one day for smaller installs, with some intruder alarm installations taking just two hours, and longer for more complex installs where we are setting up many cameras.

Do you provide systems for homes or just commercial property?

CCTV Galway caters for both domestic residential and commercial settings. We have years of experience in both sectors.

Are you PSA-registered?

Yes – all our technicians are PSA-registered in Ireland, in accordance with legal requirements. Please always make sure your chosen installer is PSA registered to guarantee you have a fully functioning, correctly specified system for your home or business.

What is a PTZ Camera?

A PTZ camera is a camera which can pan around, tilt up and down, as well as zoom in and out. PTZ cameras are typically found in commercial CCTV installations but can also be installed in your home, depending on certain factors and suitability.

Are there data protection issues with CCTV?

We can advise you on signage required (if any) when operating CCTV systems. The ODPC can also provide further information should you require it.

Can I view my cameras remotely?

All systems come with the ability to access your camera feeds remotely using a smartphone app. When discussing your CCTV requirements with us, feel free to ask about how these apps work, and we will give you a full rundown of the available controls.

Home Alarms FAQs

Do I need an intruder alarm system?

There are a total of 18,000 burglaries and break-ins reported in Ireland every year, with this figure rising following the lifting of lockdown restrictions. Homeowners and renters need to protect their families and valuable possessions, especially considering this statistic. One potential way to keep your family safe is installing an efficient home alarm system. Research shows that customers feel 8.5 times more secure than the national average after installing Intruder Alarms due to their user-friendly features and deterring security alarms.

How do Intruder Alarms work?

Typically, all home alarm systems operate on the same principle of protecting the entry/exit points, including doors, windows, and ducts. It also secures valuable possessions such as art pieces, antique collections, and other monetary wealth. Depending on the size of your home, the number of components can vary. You will most likely require more sensors if you have a bigger home. Each part works together through a system to secure your home and notify authorities in case of intrusion.

What are the common components of a home security alarm system?

A standard home alarm system includes the following components:

  • A control panel
  • Sensors
  • Motion detectors inside and outside
  • Wired or wireless camera
  • Siren

A control panel is a computerized system that activates or deactivates the security system, whereas the sensors are at each entry point, i.e., doors and windows. Meanwhile, motion detectors establish an invisible field that triggers the alarm when trespassing.

We install surveillance cameras throughout your property to monitor activity in hard to see or remote areas such as garages, barns, and workshops. Sirens are the alarms that go off in case of a breach or fire incident; they are loud enough to alert the neighbourhood.

How much will it cost to install an intruder alarm?

The cost of your security alarm system depends on the type of device you install. The number of components, security features, and the benefits affects your Intruder Alarms system’s pricing. Therefore we offer custom quotes to our clients. All you need to do is fill out the online form or contact our customer care.

After sharing your requirements, we will provide you with the right security plan and the installation cost and the monthly fee. To view our three Intruder Alarm packages currently available, please visit our Intruder Alarms page.

If there is a power failure, will my intruder alarm still be active?

With an Intruder Alarm, you don’t need to worry about power failures or broken phone lines as we can connect our device directly to your cellular service using a secure cloud internet connection. Our systems also connect to a landline, which means the monitoring unit will still be active even if the electricity goes out.

With a backup power generation supply (battery), your security system can communicate with the monitoring station and thus report burglary incidents even when the power is out. You never have to worry about your system’s functioning being compromised by external factors.

How long does it take my security system to notify the provider of an intrusion?

When an alarm goes off, it will notify the alarm centre immediately.

What does 24/7 monitoring mean for me?

Security alarms come with varying features, from triggering alarms to notifying authorities to providing 24/7 surveillance. With our non-stop Intruder Alarms, you can access your property’s surveillance system at any time you want, instead of just getting notified when there’s an emergency. It also lets you activate and deactivate your alarm system whenever you want, thus minimizing the chances of sending false alarms.
